Athletes on the field, Role Models off the field!

It's one thing to be a professional athlete, but you have to learn to take that to the next level. Most of professional athletes become role models to alot of fans. Torrey Smith is a new role model in most people's eyes. For those of you who don't know Torrey, he is the football wide reciever for the Baltimore Ravens, #82. I know Torrey Smith on a personal experience. He is a regular at my work, Jimmy's Famous Seafood. He can't get enough of our crab cakes. Torry Smith takes time from his busy season to procast a radio show with 98 Rock at Jimmy's Famous Seafood EVERY MONDAY NIGHT. I've experienced how many fans we can bring in on a slow monday night at work. He's an inspirational person on and off the field. He takes the time to sign autographs, take pictures, and make friends with his fans. He has fans from all age groups: from children to adults. I personally am a big fan of Torrey. Not just the fact he is an inspirational player, but also due to the fact he hasn't let fame change him one bit. He's probably the nicest person i have met. He is currently engaged to the girlfriend thats been with him every step of the way. I do not believe the celebrity aspect of his life has effected his abilities on the field, he is an excellent player. The Ravens should be grateful for his new addition to the team. He makes us Baltimore Raven fans proud and our Role Model.
Unfortunately, not all of our Role Models can stay true to theirselves. For example, we all know about the tradegy Tiger Woods caused on his family, friends, and fans. He decided to let fame get to him and ruin his repretation. He had sexual affiars with many women while being married and having a child. He was selfish to his own needs before thinking how it would effect everyone else. Its a shame since he is a tremedous player on the field, just wasn't the role model we expected off the field. Not only did he cheat, but he stayed quiet about the affiars thinking they might blow over. They didn't. You can see how the actions of our role models can affect us.

How Musicans are making it !

Singers and artist get discovered in a variety of ways in our society. Just by creating your own youtube account with videos of you singing variety of songs and maybe some of your own music can get you discovered. Everyone is on YouTube, its a huge hit for music. For example, our teen big hit Justin Bieber got discovered on YouTube by Usher. Now the nation has been swept with "Bieber Fever". It's a deadly disease that has young girls falling head over heels for Justin Bieber.

Being an artist, there's several things you need to do before marketing yourself as a musician. First off, you need to classify your music. Usher is a famous R&B singer, and you will find his music on R&B stations and categories. Then create yourself several social websites like facebook, twitter, instagram etc. It's good as a artist trying to make it to build a fan base. Your fans would like to be inform on your life and what your doing with your career and life. It's important to network as much as possible. Start off at local gigs doing open mic night. This will help with building your fan base and getting your music spread by the word of mouth. Maintain a database for contact, give out email address and mailing address. This is a great way to see how your fans are responding to your music. After you do the local gig scene for awhile, try to open up for a bigger band, this way you'll get yourself a larger audience and promote your music to people who may never even heard of you. Invest in good social relations, any media you can get is the best for your band. Photographs, newspapers, interviews. Then record a demo, the better the demo the higher chance it will be networked.

One major example of musicans starting off small and trying to make it big in the world is the band ALL TIME LOW! All Time Low started off at local gigs and doing open mic in our every own Baltimore city. I remember when they were passing out flyers at White Marsh mall trying to promote their band and get a larger fan base to know their music. After all their hard work, they finally made it. All Time Low is actually a huge band across the world now. I believe if a artist works hard enough and is talented enough, they can make a name for themselves.

Opinions rather then the truth

News: Opinions rather then the truth

I have to be completely honest, I never watch the news. I don't know what's going on in the world. I don't know anything about politics, I've just never cared. I've always been more interested in what's going on around me locally, not worldwide. I just never cared to use my free time listening to anchors
twist the truth about what's going on.

Bill O'Reilly Jackass pictures In class on tuesday was the first time I actually spent any time watching a whole hour of a cable news commentator. As we know, we all watched Bill O'Reilly. It makes me wonder how people can actually watch this crap and call it news? O'Reilly is so disrepectful to his guests and the news. For example, him attacking his guest speaker and accusing him of saying Bush was in comperacy for 9/11. The guest couldn't even sue for doing that to him and his family. He doesn't give any of his guests a chance to speak their voice or opinions. ITS HIS VOICE OR NO VOICE AT ALL! He tells people to SHUT UP like there's no tomorrow. Last time I checked, that wasn't news. It's to the point where O'Reilly news is garbage when he believes his own lies. He doesn't know his made up lies from his own reality of the truth. So how can we know anything that he is saying can be true? We don't. It's crazy to know FOX news actually backs up Bill O'Reilly on his techniques and continues him to anchor in his rude and untruthful mannerisms.

Then I watched Wolf Bitzner's cable news whom he is the anchorman on CNN news. He is a WAAY more respectable anchorman than Bill O'Reilly. He actually allows his guest speakers their own opinions and the chance to speak their mind about the topic. He seems more knowledgable in his topics to allow people their opinions instead of attacking them as soon as they open their mouth. He actually gets information from his guest speakers, instead of only stating his opinions. So you get to listen to both sides of the story. But as any other news, the truth is distorted to get good ratings. So I refuse to watch any of this crap on my own free will. I don't know how people watch this and actually fall into the mistake of believing their lies as being the truth.  I'm glad I don't have time for tv, but if i do it isn't watching these anchors on the "NEWS".

"T-SHIRT TIME! Cab's here!"

I can guarantee that everyone reading this blog can immediately know what televison show I'm quoting from.. the JERSEY SHORE! This MTV show swept the nation over three years ago.

This MTV show is all about eight people living together in Jersey Shore. Four juice head type of men with the big body builder bodies, over excessively fake spray tan, and hairstrayed, gelled up hair; named Vinnie, Ronnie, "the Situation" and "DJ Pauly". When it comes to the ladies; it's the super spray tan, massive amount of hairspray and boob jobs named "Snookie", "JWOWWW", "Sammi Sweetheart", and Deena.  It's unbelievable how people can just become famous for just receiving their own reality tv show and making a fool out of themselves. The Jersey Shore reality show is famous for spraytans, hooking up with random people at bars, getting sloppy drunk and can't forget GTL! Gym, Tan, Laundry. That is the successful motto of Jersey Shore. As long as you GTL, you'll succeed in life... NOT! This show has the message of fighting, arguing and manipulating people is the way to face problems. No matter if it's within the household or just random people they met in the bar. Keep up the good work, teaching your watchers that sex and alcohol is the way of life.  If it wasnt for Snooki, no one would know how to classically flash their vagina or be drunk by 2 in the afternoon. That's pure talent...
Jersey shore affects our society, because they make going out to bars, getting stupid drunk, dressing like skanks, flashing their vaginas, and getting into fights in the bar the "cool" thing and the way of life. The reality tv show of Jersey shore just affects the way our socierty is viewed by other countries. Do we really want to make it okay to flaunt this MTV show as our way of life? Knowing all you had to do was to GTL and work at a t-shirt shop. The reality tv of Jersey Shore is just an attempt for eight peolpe to get famous by getting into fights, getting arrested and making reality interesting by acting dumb. While getting famous for making a fool of themselves, they're getting paid TWO MILLION dollars per episode. Thats just insane to make that kind of money for making yourself look dumb on MTV. FIST PUMPING LIKE CHAMPS!

Are Newspapers Just Becoming a Waste of Paper?!

Newspapers have been around for as long as it seems as... forever. Maybe since before dinosaurs were extincted. To get the point across, newspapers have been a way for people to receive the news for centuries. The only time I dared going anywhere near The Baltimore Sun, the New York Times, or USAToday was for my sophomore year of high school. My social studies teacher assigned us to do a weekly current event. I figured if I wanted a good grade, I might have to risk the paper cut or two. It was dreadful... I felt like I was going extinct just reading a newspaper.

I feel bad for being so negative on the idea of reading a newspaper. I will admit to stopping and grabbing the Dundalk Eagle from time to time whenever I'm over Rebekah's house just to see whats going on in the community.

The idea of sitting outside on a beautiful Saturday morning, reading the newspaper and drinking a nice cup of coffee seems like a great way of relaxation. For an old person.... Let's face it, newspapers are not what they used to be, we are just becoming way too advance with internet and HD television. The question is how long will they last..? People seem to enjoy getting and reading their local newspaper. We like to know what's going on in just our community and the local newspaper is the best way for that information. But when it comes to worldly news, with a click of a button on our TVs, we can have easy and convenient access. I give the newspaper the next 50 years to survive before its the next to become extinct.

What Does Media Portray as Beautiful?

I dread taking my annual trip to the grocery store, I  try delaying it as much as I can until I need to restock on everything. I try getting in and out as soon as possible. That just never seems to happen no matter how hard I try... I always get tripped by crying kids begging for something their mother's don't want to buy them and old ladies that walk slow as dirt. When it's time to ring out, there's always just one cashier open and the rest fast-lanes. I always exceed the number of items of fast-lane, so I always have to wait in the loooong, sloooow-moving only register that is open lane. While standing there waiting, the cosmopelitan magazine always seem to grab my attention.

The cover of this magazine is Lucy Hale, who plays a starring role in Pretty Little Liars on ABC Family. The last time I checked ABC Family was a family type channel for families to watch and enjoy, especially younger girls. Lucy Hale is an actress that many younger girls look up too and want to be like. Younger girls seeing this magazine at the local grocery store might get the wrong idea on how they have to look or dress to be successful or pretty as their favorite actress. This puts an early insecure pressure on girls thinking they have to be slim weight tiny, cleavage showing, and decked out in make up in order to be beautiful.

This teenage girl should not be worried about her weight. Just because she's not 5'6 and 120 pounds, does not mean she isn't beautiful. She's skinny and has a natural pretty, but today's media has younger girls worried and stressed on their appearance. How far will it go? Until girls are being pressured to starve and become depressed? When will Media realize that money isn't worthed destroying the self-esteem of younger teenagers?!!?!
